The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
